The Giraffe class is gearing up for success as we finished studying transportation this week! We learned that transportation is a way to get us from one place to another. There are a lot of forms of transportation - boats, cars, trains, planes, and more! We talked a lot about the three categories of transportation: land, sea, and sky.

Fun at Home
We practiced sequencing numbers 1 - 10 using a truck puzzle this week. This type of puzzle is easy to make and can help students practice numbers, letters, and spelling.

  1. Print off a picture of your choice.
  2. Write the numbers or letters along the bottom of the page
  3. Cut the picture into strips
  4. See if your child can put it back together and talk about the numbers and letters

Check out some of our activities from last week!

We sorted pictures of different forms of transportation into
their environments! We talked about how fire helps planes and
hot air balloons fly, how vehicles on land need wheels, and how
boats in the water tend to have a flat bottom!

We made our own classroom airplane and had it zip
along a string. We noticed that in order for it to go
faster, Ms. Tremmel needed to hold it up high!

Students practiced cutting on the line with the
encouragement of some favorite Disney characters from
Cars and Planes. They tried to cut on the "road" to get to
the characters.

This week we studied the letter X and made our own Letter X x-rays!
We talked about how x-rays show us pictures of our bones under our skin.

Students decorate plates to make models of hot air balloons!

Students had a couple of opportunities this week to paint with cars, trucks, bikes,
and people to explore the tracks made by the different forms of transportation.

Students practiced sequencing numbers 1 - 10 by putting
together a puzzle of a dump truck.

Sometimes it's relaxing to "paint" with baking soda, vinegar, and
food coloring. The students relax as they watch their art come to
life with fizzing and bubbles. Not only is this calming, but the students
are also working on fine motor skills (shh! Don't tell them!).

This week we learned about the Good Samaritan. In this parable, God demonstrates that he wants us to take care of each other. If we see a friend that needs our help, we should not just ignore them, but look for ways to comfort them. I am pretty excited about how much the students already do this at school. I often find friends comforting each other with a hug or a pat on the back when they see a student who is missing mommy or daddy. We also talked about how praying for each other is another way to care for our friends.

We hope to see you on March 13th when the preschool sings at the 11am church service! The students love practicing the Butterfly song to prepare for it. We would also love to see grandparents on March 14th for a special celebration! There is a note and RSVP form in the students' take home folders.

The Giraffe class is zooming along as we learn about transportation! We had fun making our own cars and roads this week. Check out some of our fun activities!

Bubble wrap roads made a fun sensory activity as we discovered that small
bubbles will pop when a car drives over it, but large bubbles won't!

We reviewed how to make the number nine
with stickers.

One morning the students decided they wanted to be
princes and princesses so they made beaded crowns!

We made cars using half of a paper plate
and different cut-out shapes.

We practiced spelling our names by making
a name train! Each car of the train was a different letter
of our name.

Students were asked to count the passengers on
each form of transportation.

We were very blessed to receive some new items
in our classroom, including these puppets!

We learned how Jesus washed his disciples feet to show them how to serve each other. We talked about how we can serve each other by helping each other clean up, put on shoes, and use kind words.

I hope that everyone had a great Valentine's Day weekend! The students had a week filled with love as they reflected on who they love and the qualities that these people have. Actions such as sharing toys, giving hugs, and helping each other were a few of the ways we talked about how we can show friends that we love them.

Fun at Home
Marshmallows are a tasty treat - but they can also be used for great fine-motor/prewriting activities. Here's how!
  1. Draw shapes, letters, and/or numbers on construction paper
  2. Pour a little Elmer's glue into a bowl
  3. Encourage your child to paint the glue on the drawing and trace it with marshmallows

February's sensory bin was centered around Valentine's colors
and conversation hearts.

Students enjoyed making a Valentine's sensory soup!
This was purely for fun and science - not food!
We talked about what changed color in the water,
as well as what was able to sink or float.

Students decorated their Valentine Mailboxes.

For a science experiment the class observed what happens
when vinegar (mixed with food coloring) mixes
with baking soda (shaped as a heart).
The result was very bubbly!

We had a lot of fun at the Valentine's Day Party!
The students used tongs to sort pom-poms to
the matching heart. The students also had fun
playing heart toss.

The party snack was a hit! We were so thankful
for the parent volunteers who helped us put it together.
They were yogurt cones with sprinkles and strawberries!

We ended the party with a calming painting activity.
There were hidden heart pictures (made using white crayon)
that the students uncovered by using watercolor paint.
