It's been a blizzard of fun in the Giraffe class as we learn about winter weather and animals! We learned about the letter R and number 11 as well!

Fun at Home
Shaving cream can be a fun "snowy" sensory activity! Students can build with it or draw in it depending on their mood. 

Check out some of our activities last week!

We counted buttons on snowman cards and 
matched them to the right number!



 We are getting better at making houses with our waffle blocks! 
It can be tricky to line up the "teeth"

 The students are starting to show interest
in tanagram puzzles. These are great practice 
for shapes and logic.

 The students are working on spelling their 
names. Some students are independent and others
use a visual aid for support. This is a higher level skill, 
so do not be discouraged if your child still needs support.

Happy New Year! As much as we enjoyed spending time with our families for Christmas, it is great to be back with our friends! We are learning about New year's, winter and snow this month.

We had fun at the Christmas party! 
We set up a photo booth for the kids to strike a pose - they were adorable!










 The students threw marshmallows into the mouth of a snowman to feed him!




There was a blizzard in the classroom and the students 
had to shovel the snow (cotton balls) off of the roads 
so that the cars could drive!

It was a great party! 
We were happy to see the parents and kids 
having fun with the games!


When we came back from break last week, 
the class talked about how we are now
in a new year. 
We set goals - such as share our toys, 
make new friends, and learn to go potty on 
the toilet (the students set the goals, we were impressed)

We stamped the letter Q. The students are becoming
very independent with tracing activities, which is a 
great sign that their motor skills are developing and 
preparing for writing.

Making picture for mom and dad is always a great way to start a morning!


Students were asked to put 6 buttons on their snowman. 
They had to paint the glue on and count out the buttons. 
They did a super job! Many friends still need help
focusing on when to stop, but everyone is correctly
sequencing their numbers. 









The class helped Ms. Tremmel make Snow Dough. 
They did most of the work. We combined flour and 
vegetable oil and mixed it up until we had a doughy 
texture. We tried making different s
hapes, numbers, and letters. 


Salt is a great sensory activity to encourage pre-writing practice. 
Sometimes students used it to calm their bodies, and other times 
they were excited to try and write letters. 


Queen starts with Q! We made letter Q Queens.




The class has a new favorite book! 
It's called No David by David Shannon. 
There are not very many words in the book, 
it's mostly a mommy telling David to stop 
doing things. As we read it, I ask the students 
why his mom his saying no. We talk about if 
David is being safe, kind, and healthy. We
also use the end of the story to practice how 
to say sorry. "David should say: sorry mommy for
breaking the vase/not listening to you."
I catch the students reading to the story by themselves when
they are not asking a teacher to read it to them (5 or 6 times a day). 
We love watching them be excited about books!



The students had to find marshmallow food for the snowman
hidden around the room. The food had letters written on them.
Before the students fed the snowman, the students had 
to tell Ms. Tremmel what letter they found.
