Happy 4th of July! We celebrated America's birthday this week with fireworks, and an exploration of the American flag! Check out some of our activities!

We made miniature American flags!
We noticed that there are rectangles and
stars on the flag.

We used stamps to make fireworks!
The best part about the fireworks, is that even though
we all used the same colors and stamps,
all of our art looked different.

Watch out for our patriotic
"firecracker" hats! Some students worked
on making color patterns, and other students
focused on color identification.

We used glue, salt and water colors to make these
fun textured fireworks. This was a great
exercise in hand-eye coordination, as well as,
fine motor skills.

Rainy day? Never fear! We had fun riding
trikes in the gym!

We worked together to make a large American flag!
We had to match the colors on the mosaic paper to
the colors on the flag.

See you next week!

Argghhh! Watch out ye mates - for the Giraffe class has turned into Pirates this past week! We followed clues to treasure, counted our gold, and sunk other Pirate ships! Take a peek at our week if ye dare!

We wouldn't be Pirates without the perfect pirate hat!
Students decorated their hats with pirate stickers.

Pirate science!
The class explored sink or float concepts with
pirate ships (the green noodles) and treasure.
We also tried to see how much treasure we could
put on the ships before it fell overboard!

A pirate's favorite pet is a parrot and we were lucky
enough to meet a couple of friendly parrots last week!
We learned that they like to eat fruit and nuts, they can
talk to us, and they are very colorful.

We wouldn't be proper pirates if we didn't
hunt for treasure! In this picture, the class had
finally found the small chest of gold after
a long hunt, following clues left all of the school.
We were very impressed at how the students figured
out the clues all by themselves!

 Counting our gold!
Students were given a number and they
had to try and find that much gold for their pile.

We love hearing students read to themselves!

Rainy day? No worries!
We had fun on our new tricycles!

Mapping our way out to the treasure!
The students had to trace the
footprints to the X.

It was a fun week! Stay tuned for next week's adventures!
