Last week was full of sweet surprises as the Giraffe class learned about food and nutrition! We learned that one way to help us make good eating choices is by eating foods that are different colors throughout the day! We also started talking about the different types of food (vegetables, fruits, protein, grain, and dairy). The students enjoyed telling their friends about their favorite foods from each category. 

Fun At Home

Food can make a great pre-writing tool! You can use cereal, marshmallows, and more to trace shapes and lines on a paper.

Students had fun making food monsters this week!

We used a variety of fruits and vegetables to make these 

silly monsters.

The students sorted food by color to help them process how

they can eat different colors throughout the day.

 We reviewed letter X by tracing it with stamps!

 Students decorated people and picked out some of their 

favorite food to put in the person's belly.

Students love starting the day with baking soda and vinegar. 

We add some food coloring to the vinegar to make it even more 

exciting. The students experiment with color mixing, 

how the vinegar reacts to the baking soda compared to a spot that 

is saturated with vinegar, and more! 

 Students practiced counting to 8 as they stamped 8 seeds in 

a watermelon.

We learned that yarn starts with the letter Y! 

To help us remember, we sewed yarn on the letter Y.

The students did a really good job with this fine-motor activity.

Painting with pretzels? What fun! 

The students traced their names using 

pretzels for paintbrushes. They enjoyed the

texture of the pretzel as a writing tool, and 

the large sticks were easy to hold.

 Students worked on writing skills as they traced a path 

for the "Very Hungry Caterpillar" to get to the food!

They worked on straight, curvy, and zig-zag lines.

by Eric Carle, the students made their own caterpillars

by putting the food in the correct order.

 This week at Jesus time we learned about Palm Sunday - when people were so excited to see Jesus pass by that they yelled: "Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest!" We want to stay excited about Jesus too. Sometimes that can be hard. Especially when we feel sad or mad. But we should always remember - Jesus loves us and he is with us always!

The Giraffe class is gearing up for success as we finished studying transportation this week! We learned that transportation is a way to get us from one place to another. There are a lot of forms of transportation - boats, cars, trains, planes, and more! We talked a lot about the three categories of transportation: land, sea, and sky. 

Fun at Home

We practiced sequencing numbers 1 - 10 using a truck puzzle this week. This type of puzzle is easy to make and can help students practice numbers, letters, and spelling. 

  

1. Print off a picture of your choice. 
2. Write the numbers or letters along the bottom of the page
3. Cut the picture into strips
4. See if your child can put it back together and talk about the numbers and letters

We sorted pictures of different forms of transportation into 

their environments! We talked about how fire helps planes and 

hot air balloons fly, how vehicles on land need wheels, and how

boats in the water tend to have a flat bottom!

We made our own classroom airplane and had it zip

along a string. We noticed that in order for it to go 

faster, Ms. Tremmel needed to hold it up high!

Students practiced cutting on the line with the 

encouragement of some favorite Disney characters from 

Cars and Planes. They tried to cut on the "road" to get to 

the characters.

This week we studied the letter X and made our own Letter X x-rays!

We talked about how x-rays show us pictures of our bones under our skin.

 

 Students decorate plates to make models of hot air balloons!

 Students had a couple of opportunities this week to paint with cars, trucks, bikes, 

and people to explore the tracks made by the different forms of transportation.  

 

Students practiced sequencing numbers 1 - 10 by putting 

together a puzzle of a dump truck.  

 

 

 Sometimes it's relaxing to "paint" with baking soda, vinegar, and 

food coloring. The students relax as they watch their art come to

life with fizzing and bubbles. Not only is this calming, but the students

are also working on fine motor skills (shh! Don't tell them!). 

This week we learned about the Good Samaritan. In this parable, God demonstrates that he wants us to take care of each other. If we see a friend that needs our help, we should not just ignore them, but look for ways to comfort them. I am pretty excited about how much the students already do this at school. I often find friends comforting each other with a hug or a pat on the back when they see a student who is missing mommy or daddy. We also talked about how praying for each other is another way to care for our friends. 

We hope to see you on March 13th when the preschool sings at the 11am church service! The students love practicing the Butterfly song to prepare for it. We would also love to see grandparents on March 14th for a special celebration! There is a note and RSVP form in the students' take home folders.
