We are FALLing in love with Fall in the Giraffe class! This week we learned about the life cycle of pumpkins. We learned how farmers plant pumpkin seeds, which turn into sprouts. The sprouts grow vines, which eventually get yellow flowers. Next baby green pumpkins grow on the vine. As the pumpkins mature they turn orange!

Our letter of the week was "I." And we reviewed numbers 0 - 6.

Fun at home:
Looking for a way to keep children occupied while you are cooking? Try setting up a tray (or cookie sheet to minimize the mess) with two bowls, a fork, a teaspoon, and a serving spoon. Put something in one of the bowls (such as ice or water) and challenge the child to transfer the items from one bowl to the other without spilling. The children are working on science (what happens if I scoop water using a fork?), and building motor skills in this fun activity.

Take a look at learning!

We made our own pumpkins using paper mache!

We were so excited at how great they turned out!
The kids did a great job!

This week we used finger sleeves for our Q-tip paintings.
The students traced the letter "I"

Students traced the number six using stickers!

We painted pumpkin wreaths for our parents!

We counted pumpkins in mini pumpkin patches!

Outdoor fun!

Field Trip! Time for fun at the Pumpkin Patch!

See you next week!

Last week was heated with excitement as the Giraffe class learned about fire safety! We talked about
where we can find fire: camping, kitchen, fireplace, wild fires in the woods, and house fires. We sorted these fires into two groups: safe (with parental supervision) and unsafe! The kids loved practicing Stop! Drop! and Roll! We talked about how this technique is used if our clothes catch on fire. Our letter of the week was H.

Take a look at our learning! Our curiosity was ablaze!

We love using calm play opportunities
to develop conversation skills.

H is for Hippo!

We turned plates into fire-fighter hats!
Junior fire-fighters know that fire is not safe for us
to touch.

Oh No! The whiteboard is "on fire!"
Who can rescue the magnetic letters??
Students had to follow the road to the whiteboard
and take a letter to the safety bowl.
The students told the teacher which letters they saved.

We made a campfire out of Legos and built a wall
around it to keep it safe!

Mr. Kuppler is a volunteer from our church and a fantastic male role-model for kids.
He has taught Sunday school for many years (Ms. Tremmel had him as a teacher for four years).
We invited him to come and help us with activities a couple times a week.

Look at this team work! Way to go girls!

The students got to put out fires with squirt bottles.
This was a great workout for their fingers as we work on gross motor skills.

Students were given a picture of a house with a number.
They had to count out that number of flames and
then save the house by blowing flames off the house!

Puppet shows are a great way to process learning and develop language skills.

Our Jesus Time focused on the story of David and Goliath. We talked about how sometimes we are scared, but God never leaves our side.

See you next time!

Hello! This past week was sure busy! We explored more jobs and thought about what we might want to be when we grow up. We had the pleasure of having three special guests come and talk to us about their jobs: a nurse, fire-fighters, and a police officer. The students were very engaged in the exploratory activities. This week, our letter of the week was G and we learned the number 6.

Enjoy our pictures!

Nurse Jessica (a preschool alum) came in on Wednesday and set up
some medical centers for us! Students got to make their own medical bags,
listen through a stethoscope, look at x-rays,
and ask Nurse Jessica questions about her job.

Students made their own medical bags
with a band-aid, a tongue depressor, and a cotton ball.

Listen to your heart!

Whew! We were worn out! Some of us couldn't wait until nap time :)

Thursday, some fire-fighters cam and showed us their uniforms and fire-truck.
They can look kinda scary with the oxygen mask on - but they were very nice!
They even let us come up and touch their uniform so that we would not be afraid.

Officer Sternberg came on Friday and told us how policemen (and women)
want to protect people from dangerous situations. If someone is trying to hurt us
Police can help us stay safe. Officer Sternberg showed us his police car too!
His car has a computer inside. Our favorite part was seeing the lights.

God blessed us with a fun week of learning.
Check out some of our other activities:

We hope to see everyone on Sunday, October 11th at 8:15am service!
The students will be invited to sing in front of the congregation.
See you next time!
