The Giraffe class has been growing with excitement as we finished learning about flowers this week! The students have enjoyed watching our flower seeds sprout with small stems and leaves! They know that under the dirt there are roots eating food from the dirt and drinking water. They cannot wait for the petals to come out!

Check out some of our other activities this week!

Students were given flowers with letters and they
were asked to put the letters in the order of their name!
The students are getting very good at this activity.

Students made 3D flowers and talked about the different parts.

 Students painted the letter X.
We love free-painting!

Students counted out petals to put on flowers!

Students practiced putting numbers 1 - 10 in number order.
When they were done, the numbers had made a large flower!

The students have a special celebration coming up on Wednesday (5-18) and
they made colorful butterflies to decorate the stage!
They painted one wing, squished the other wing on top and
compared the wings! They were excited to see that the wings
were usually almost exactly the same!

We like exploring rocks with our classroom magnifying glasses!

On Tuesday we had a special guest from the Magic House!
Her name was Emily and she read us a story about Clifford
and then the students helped her sort Clifford's toys from smallest
to biggest. The students did an excellent job of listening and
participating!

See you next time!

The Giraffes are budding with excitement about flowers! We learned the different parts of flowers (roots, stem, leaves, and petals); we compared flowers by size; and we planted our own flowers for our moms!

Fun at Home
Teaching your child to plant and to take care of a plant can build responsibility (without major consequences if it goes badly). You can get a small flower pot for $1 at a home improvement store, Walmart, or Target along with a packet of flower seeds. We used African Daisies in our classroom because they will grow quickly and only need partial sunlight. Encourage your child to scoop the dirt and a couple of seeds in the flower pot. They will be responsible for watering it every day. Want to make it even more interactive? As the sprout begins to grow, measure it with them and draw its progress in a timeline. This Spring/Summer project can work on Science, Math, and Responsibility!

Check out our work!

The students compared flowers by size and practiced
using description words: bigger, smaller, biggest, and smallest.

Students practiced associating quantity with
numbers as they counted out flower petals for
each flower according to the number above the flower.

Students decorated cups to plant flowers
in for Mother's day presents!

We gave the seeds dirt and water so that they
would not be hungry or thirsty!

Students made cards for their moms! The students
decorated the cards and told the teachers what to
write on the inside of the card.

Students traced capital and lowercase letters P - T.

Students were challenged to find and stamp
letters P and Q!

Practicing counting!

The class used shapes to make flowers! We used oval
petals, circle middle, rectangle stems, diamond leaves, and
triangles for grass.

Building together with alphabet blocks!

Students matched flowers with lowercase letters
to pots with uppercase letters!

Making patterns and matching colors with rubber bugs!

We have started practicing singing on the big stage
for the end of the year celebration!

Planting flowers in the class Sensory table!

This week the students learned about Noah and the big flood during Jesus time! God wants us to remember him like Noah did. God loves us very much, and sends us rainbows to remind us of his promise to never flood the whole Earth again.
